This chasm was first traversed by cable around 20 metres above sea level for the lighthouse to be constructed which was also used until 1928. The stores and fuel were motioned across in a sliding basket until the iron bridge was constructed in 1928 then again superseded by an aluminium bridge constructed in 1964, and again by the bridge you see here today built in 1997.
27a This is a view of the Stone pillars which were mined at Moelfre quarries and capped with single stones weighing four tons each to support the strong iron chains which are firmly attached to the cliffs on either side of the chasm.
