As the picture shows Captain Hugh Evans accomplished his aim to have the lighthouse constructed, all starting in 1806 when he collected facts and figures on the relevant Holy Island coast line of maritime disasters for the next twelve months, producing them to the decision makers of the time in 1807.

The lighthouse was built with great determination as would be expected the weather hindered the operation on many occasions bearing in mind the time of year the lighthouse was completed a great many men and materials being swung down the rope sliding basket onto the island indeed it was not until 1828 that a suspension bridge was constructed from iron costing in excess of £1000.
